As the very name suggests, Reporters Club Nepal (RCN) is a media hub where journalists converge in every day ever since it was founded by working journalists in the spring of the year 1998. Verily, it has evolved as an institution par excellence.
In what indicates at the consistent commitment on the part of journalists associated with it, RCN has over the years evolved as an epicenter of news and views which comes directly from the political and social actors. So much so that no one who is anyone and every one who is at the receiving end gets to speak out to the members of the press.
Just in case anyone is keen to know as to how many speakers must have got an opportunity to speak out their mind at the RCN, it is safe to calculate that at the rate of at least 3 persons a day. They often include ministers, bureaucrats, economists, human rights activists, student leaders, parents and from captains of industry to retailers.
Expectedly enough, it is safe to assume that RCN and its activism has made impact on the unfolding political scenario given the waves created by media reporting of the issues involved. All the newspapers, new channels and FM radio stations carry the news generated at the end of the interaction sessions.
Put differently, RCN is a forum of journalists which is devoted to dissemination of views and opinions of political actors by bringing together journalists and newsmakers ranging from top political leaders, Members of Parliament, captains of industry, intellectuals, and representatives of the marginalized section of society and so on. At the center of it all is RCN President Rishi Dhamala who is assisted by an executive committee.
